In October of 2001 I met up with a couple friends of mine in Peru. I had been volunteering in Belize and St. Lucia for 4 months and thought it would be cool to take advantage of my situation and vacation in South America for a month. I flew into Lima and met up with my friends and we quickly headed out to Iquitos on the Amazon River. In Iquitos we hired and ex-commando officer called Orlando to take us into the Jungle for 4 days. When Orlando was a police officer he would parachute into the jungles near the borders of Columbia and Ecuador where he would live for 3-4 months at a time searching for drug operations. We thought this is the perfect guy to introduce us to the jungles of Peru.

The highlights from the Amazon trip include:

1. Touching the Amazon River


2. Meeting locals who make their living off the Amazon river


3. Canoeing in dugout canoes


4. Hiking for hours and hours in the Jungle


5. Sleeping in hammocks tied to trees, wrapped in a mosquito net


6. Going hunting for food at night with only our Flashlights and a shotgun


7. Getting attacked by Fire Ants as we try and cross a creek in pitch back darkness of night


8. Going fishing for piranha


9. Holding a 3 Toed Sloth
